"We have 100% grass fed and grass finished Steers. We have a daily pasture rotation for our cows. Changing the pasture that they graze upon every day yields tremendous rewards. It changes the way the cows react and how the soil and grass reciprocate to grazing. Not only does it generate more grass in each pasture, and makes the cows gain weight with ease, it also provides the cows with high quality grass every.single.day. During most months they graze upon our 90 acres of chemical free grass, and in the winter they take nourishment from the first cutting of hay. We only use the first cutting of hay cut in the afternoon for our steer in winter because it is nutrient dense from its slow growing. Hay cut in the afternoon is ideal because the hay accumulates starch and sugars during the day. The difference in quality and nutrition in hay is in the harvesting.
Grass fed/finished Steer are lower in your saturated fats. They are higher in CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) and higher in all of your good fats (omega 3 & 6). They spend their whole lives on grass, Start (10 months) to finish. They spend approximately 2-2.5 years feeding on our pastures, rotating daily."
~words from our Dairy Farmer
Grass fed cows mean extremely higher levels of CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) & Omega-3 acids plus a definitive ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 acids. A study by Food Science & Nutrition find that grass fed milk has 147% more Omega-3's than conventional milk, and 52% more than organic milk. Research also found that grass fed milk also had 125% more CLA than conventional milk, and 90% more than organic milk.Omega-3's are your good fatty acids. The good fat your body needs. They promote good brain and heart health. Omega-3's can help prevent heart disease and help aid in the management of chronic conditions like arthritis. Omega-3's can help lower blood pressure, inflammation, and triglyceride levels.CLA helps grow muscle, reduce body fat, improves immune system, and can reduce cholesterol. CLA can also help aid in the inhibition of cancers and improve insulin sensitivity.100% Grass fed cows mean a lot more than just nutritional milk. It means higher quality butter. Grass fed butter is higher in your good unsaturated fats. Studies show 500% more CLA and 26% more Omega-3 acids than conventional butter. One tablespoon can provide 10% of daily amount needed of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential to growing and maintaining just about everything in your body; eyes, bones, skin, and teeth. Beta Carotene is another key element. It helps your body fight off free radicals . Beta Carotene is a powerful antioxidant that your body can turn into Vitamin A if daily intake isn't enough. Grass fed butter is also high in Vitamins K1 & K2. K1 is essential in your blood clotting process, and is the most common form of Vitamin K. Vitamin K2 is vital to bone and heart health by correcting your calcium levels. It tells your bones when to absorb more calcium and it removes the excess calcium from your bloodstream which helps aid in plaque build up prevention. Grass fed Whey (liquid leftover during cheese making process) is also significantly higher in the Omega-3's and CLA. It is drastically lower in saturated fats. Those nutrients can help combat stiffness and joint pain, decrease body fat, and increase strength thus making it ideal for those wanting to build more muscle.
