We raise Heritage pigs. Heritage pigs are typically smaller and weigh less because they're not raised for commercial meat. It takes them longer to bulk up but it is said that their meat is far superior. It is leaner and has a cleaner taste due to the pigs having fresh air and exercise daily.
In the fall our pigs ravish the woods for all the acorns they can find. We are very strict in this process because it does two things. It gives the pigs meat a certain taste, and two, fattens the pigs up quite nice.
We feed our pigs garden scraps and organic Non-GMO shelled corn. Due to the high amounts of heavy cream our farm produces, we have loads of skimm milk leftover daily. This ensures our pigs are given fresh raw skim milk 2-3 times a day in their troughs. Boy do they love it! Cover your ears during a feeding because they get LOUD!
